At Carlton Primary School, we strive to develop the qualities and attributes children need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society.
Our aims for PSHE at Carlton Primary School are:
- All pupils will develop an accurate, balanced and relevant knowledge around the key themes.
- All pupils will have the opportunity to explore, clarify and if necessary challenge, their own and others’ values, attitudes, beliefs, rights and responsibilities.
- All pupils will develop the skills, language and strategies they need in order to live healthy, safe, fulfilling, responsible and balanced lives.
- All pupils will have the opportunities to develop positive personal attributes such as resilience, self-confidence, self-esteem and empathy.
We are committed to offering all children a planned, developmental programme of learning, providing opportunities and contexts for children to practise applying and embedding new knowledge so that it can be used skillfully and confidently in real life situations.
In order to achieve this we follow the Jigsaw scheme of work which is carefully sequenced to ensure that the key themes are revisited year on year at a more progressive level.
The 6 key themes are:
- Being me in my world
- Celebrating difference
- Dreams and goals
- Healthy Me
- Relationships
- Changing me
We also believe that children should be provided with the opportunity to exceed these expectations and demonstrate ‘Mastery’ of these concepts where they are able. At Carlton Primary School, we consider ‘Mastery’ to be the ability to communicate and apply the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives now and in the future.
